3/21: Composing Our A.I. Statement

Synthesizing Texts

You’ll be placed in new groups today to continue working on one of the questions from last class in the service of our A.I. Statement. Use Metz’s and Marantz’s articles to develop additional answers to your group’s question. We’ll share out to the class after you’re done. Take time to do the following:

  • Reorient yourself to the question you’ve been assigned and the answers from last class.
  • Reorient yourself to Metz’s and Marantz’s articles.
  • Similar to last class, find quotations from Metz and Marantz to answer the question you’ve been assigned, and write your answers on the paper I’ve handed out.

Drafting Our Statement

You noted in last week’s Google doc that syllabus statements have multiple parts, often denoted with headings. Some statements function to set rules imposed by the instructor and reinforce power an instructor or institution has over students. You also noted that there is often a lack of clarity around the instructor’s role in supporting student learning regarding the topic of the statement. Looking at two resources together, we will consider means of being more equitable in our statement.

Do these statements have elements that inspire us?

In our drafting doc for our course’s syllabus statement, indicate the parts you’d like to compose. Work in your groups today to develop your section.

HOMEWORK

Write a blog post of about 300 words reflecting on how we expanded our collaborative writing practices this week. Describe how you collaborated, perhaps in new ways, to read, write, and make connections among texts and in your life in college. How did this week’s composition practices–the gallery walk, using sticky notes to handwrite text, moving your body around the room, group work–help you learn (or not learn)? How did you work individually? How did you work collaboratively? How did you use A.I. in your composition process? I’m personally interested in knowing if you liked or disliked the way we worked this past week. (And tell me why!) How do you personally think A.I. should be used (or not used) in higher education? As always, your work should be organized into unified paragraphs, and integrate any assigned source into your post.
